Homeopathy is a medical system developed more than 200 years ago by Samuel Hahnemann. Based on the Law of Similars, it states that: a substance that can cause symptoms in a healthy person can also treat similar symptoms found in a sick person.
Homeopathy is the essence of the art of healing. By treating the root cause of disease, homeopathy heals symptoms to promote recovery of health from a great majority of acute and chronic problems. It is the second-most widely used system of medicine in the world and fastest growing, according to the World Health Organization.
Homeopathy is widely practiced in England, France, Germany, Switzerland and India. In France, more than one-third of the population is treated by and, in England, more than 40%. The Queen is treated by the Royal Homeopaths and it is an integral part of the British National Health Services. In Germany, as required by a government mandate, all medical students must learn the basics of homeopathy. In Toronto, Canada, the Princess Margaret Hospital formerly was a homeopathic hospital and the Women’s College Hospital founded by Canada’s first female medical practitioner, Emily Stowe, a homeopath and medical doctor. The Queen Elizabeth Hospital of Montreal was formerly known as the Montreal Homeopathic Hospital.
Conventional medicine treats the symptoms of disease; homeopathy treats the root cause of disease. When a person is sick, their health is in a state of imbalance and symptoms arise. Conventional medicine diagnoses your symptoms, identifies a disease and then prescribes medication(s) for that disease.
Homeopathy has had great success in disease treatment because it does not treat the symptoms; it treats the imbalance that originally gave rise to those symptoms. How does it do this? As symptoms (mental, emotional or physical) arise, they express themselves in a way that is unique to the individual, that is, no two people share exactly the same symptom picture. By understanding your unique picture of disease, a homeopath is able to prescribe a remedy with a totality of symptoms most similar to your own. A well-selected remedy will heal symptoms heal and promote recovery of health.
Homeopathy has enjoyed great success in treating the sick for over 200 years. In 1918, the Great Spanish Flu killed an estimated 20-40 million people around the world, including 50,000 Canadians. At the time, hospitalized patients treated by conventional medicine had a mortality of 30%. Incredibly in 27,000 documented hospitalized cases, homeopaths only lost 1.05% of their patients (Journal of the American Institute of Homeopathy 1921; 13:1028-43).
Homeopathic remedies come from natural sources, the plant, animal and mineral kingdoms. The medicinal substance being used is super-diluted to the point where none of its molecules remains, only the healing properties. As your body’s cells have nothing left to react with (chemically), the remedies are free of side effects.
Some claim that homeopathic remedies are placeboes (substances containing no medication and prescribed to reinforce a patient's expectation to get well) despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. Double-blind clinical studies have confirmed the efficacy of homeopathic medicine as well as daily clinical practice where infants and animals heal routinely despite not knowing they are receiving medicine.
Because homeopathic remedies are free of chemical toxicity, they are safe for people of all ages, infants to the elderly, as well as pregnant women and animals. Conventional drugs can be safely taken with this effective alternative medicine.
Incredible as it may sound, homeopathy can treat most diseases and conditions, chronic and acute, including psychiatric illnesses. This is because homeopathy is a holistic medicine that does not treat symptoms; it treats the person who is sick. By understanding a person’s disordered state of health, a remedy can be prescribed to ignite the body’s healing power to bring the health back into balance.
Below is a partial list of disease and conditions commonly treated by homeopathy. Please contact me if you have any questions regarding your condition or if your condition is not listed.
Mechanical problems need mechanical solutions. Dislocation, fracture and conditions requiring surgical intervention need conventional treatment. Homeopathy, however, is the complementary medicine extraordinaire. Any surgery is a shock to the body, homeopathic remedies can gently prepare the body for it beforehand and post-operatively to help in diminishing pain, speeding recovery and treating adverse reactions to any medications.
Cases of genetic, congenital or metabolic disease or very advanced degenerative diseases can expect limited recovery. But homeopathy can offer excellent palliative relief free of the usual side effects associated with conventional medicine.
